A 45-year-old Stillwater man died in a motorcycle crash that occurred at about 6:30 p.m. Friday just north of Forest Lake, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
A 45-year-old Stillwater man was killed in a motorcycle crash Friday evening north of Forest Lake. Scott Vikander was traveling northbound on Highway 61 near 240th Street at a high rate of speed when he lost control and was ejected from a motorcycle, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. According to the report, alcohol was detected. According to the crash report, Vikander was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. He died at the scene.

Stillwater resident Tammy Humphries helps reunite people with lost dogs as the administrator of the Lost Dogs-MN Facebook page. The site's popularity is growing rapidly, and now she's looking for a few volunteers to help out.
For years when a dog ran away from home, the canine’s owner responded by printing off fliers and hanging them around town. Unfortunately, lost dogs can log some miles while they’re on the run. Enter the Lost Dogs-MN Facebook page run by Stillwater resident, Tammy Humphries. Simply put, the site exists to reunite people with lost dogs. Here’s how it works. The page provides one link to post a lost dog report and another for link to file a found dog form. People using the site should always include contact information, a phone number and photo of the dog in the post, Humphries said. “The idea is to get the word out, so people look for lost dogs while they’re out and about town,” Humphries said. “The site is becoming very successful the more …

Three years ago, the Minnesota DNR offered the Stillwater Fire Department an excess Coast Guard boat that had been sitting on a trailer in northern Minnesota for five years. After donations, grants and 600 staff hours of work, the boat is in service.
With a walleye chop on the St. Croix River Thursday morning, the Stillwater Fire Department showed off their newest water rescue tool: a completely retrofitted 24-foot Boston Whaler. During the recent budget adjustment process, everything that we do has been placed under a microscope. This has resulted in finding more efficiencies and encouraging the school district to not only think about doing things differently, but also to better meet the needs of our students, families and schools. With this in mind several changes are now in the works for the next school year. Many positions are being changed and eliminated over the next two years. A lucky break or destiny? Whatever it was, Stillwater resident Colleen Moran Baldrica is grateful. Her book, Tree Spirited Woman, has now captured the attention of a national audience. “Late last year I received an e-mail from a woman in Hollywood who had read my book and thought it would be the perfect addition to the gift bags being handed out at the 2012 Red Carpet Celebrity Style Lounge, a pre-Oscar event,” Baldrica said. “I just couldn’t believe it.” Fifty books were given away to award winners, celebrities, stylists, the press and media at the event held at the acclaimed L’Ermitage Hotel in Beverly Hills. It seems these changes will be very easy . Over the past forty years, public school employment has risen 10 times faster than enrollment. There are only 9 percent more students today, but nearly twice as many public school employees. With public schools complaining about student teacher ratiaos, its a given that the bloated numbers come from those employees not in front of students.   more ›
