Three years ago, the Minnesota DNR offered the Stillwater Fire Department an excess Coast Guard boat that had been sitting on a trailer in northern Minnesota for five years. After donations, grants and 600 staff hours of work, the boat is in service.
With a walleye chop on the St. Croix River Thursday morning, the Stillwater Fire Department showed off their newest water rescue tool: a completely retrofitted 24-foot Boston Whaler. Three years ago, the Minnesota DNR offered the fire department an excess Coast Guard boat that had been sitting on a trailer in northern Minnesota for five years. The boat actually had weeds growing on it when Stillwater firefighters got their hands on it, Fire Chief Stu Glaser said. “We thought, here’s a diamond in the rough. Let’s try to make this useable and functional for the Stillwater Fire Department.” With the help of grants, donations and more than 600 staff hours stripping and rebuilding the boat, the department now has that gem. With 10,000 people on…

L&D Signs recently filed a conciliation court claim alleging that St.Croix Events owes the Lake Elmo business more than $2,800 for electrical work rendered during the 2010 Lumberjack Days Festival in downtown Stillwater.
L&D Signs of Lake Elmo is the latest business to file a claim stating they weren’t paid for work completed for the Lumberjack Days Festival. L&D Signs submitted a civil claim in Washington County Conciliation Court on April 19 alleging that Dave Eckberg of St. Croix Events never paid the Lake Elmo business for $2,837 worth of electrical work that was rendered during the 2010 Lumberjack Days event. Joseph Kiesling—who submitted the claim on behalf of L&D Signs—said the company was contracted to do electrical work for the festival’s vendors during the 2010 event. The civil court claim states L&D Signs has yet to receive payment. “It’s like anything else,” Kiesling said Wednesday afternoon. “You don’t get paid, you don’t eat.” There are …

While backing out of a parking space at P.D. Pappy's last weekend, a 92-year-old Stillwater man reportedly hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, and crashed into a pair of trucks and a power pole.
Stillwater police responded to two crashes last weekend that authorities say were the result of elderly drivers mistakenly hitting the gas pedal instead of the brake. Both incidents occurred Saturday afternoon. No injures were reported in either incident. According to the police reports: Police were called to P.D. Pappy’s at about 3:09 p.m. after a 92-year-old Stillwater man "rapidly accelerated" in reverse and hit a pair of trucks and a power pole. Witnesses told police the man reversed from a parking stall “at a high rate of speed,” crashed into a truck and continued in reverse at “high speeds” until the vehicle spun around, hit a power pole and then a second truck. This Law Enforcement Memorial Day, please feel free to share your thoughts and gratitude for law enforcement officers in the comment section below.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office honored those who have fallen in the line of duty May 15 at the 18th annual Law Enforcement Memorial Day commemoration at the Washington County Historic Courthouse. The event commemorates law enforcement and corrections officers who have died in the line of duty. "We gather to give tribute to those who have given so much to our communities," Washington County Sheriff William Hutton said, welcoming members of the law enforcement and corrections community, county officials and community members to the event. Officers give a great deal of themselves just by putting on the badge and going to work each day, Hutton said. So often, when meeting new people, and telling them of his profession, many people …

The Stillwater Fire Department will hold a public event and demonstration of a recently retrofitted firefighting boat at 11 a.m. Thursday at Lowell Park.
The Stillwater Fire Department recently received a donation to retrofit a boat with fire suppression capabilities—a “critical tool” fire officials say will increase the safety of those spending time on or near the St. Croix River. The $13,000 donation from the Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company and RJF has allowed the Stillwater Fire Department to purchase a fire pump, steering brackets, motor mounting, oil tanks and other engine parts. The funds are also being used to repaint a 24-foot surplus Coast Guard fire rescue boat to match existing fire trucks. The fire department recently acquired the firefighting boat from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, but lacked the funds needed to make the boat fully operational. “This boat will…

This is ridiculous. Sr. makes a very good point about the timing of Senser's case. I would be curious to know how many interviews, and the length of those interviews. I can not believe how long this thing is taking, and am curious why he wasn't charged with the bad check charges right away, regardless of what his other charges may be.   more ›
