Stillwater Area School District Superintendent Corey Lunn writes about several changes that are in the works for the next school year.
During the recent budget adjustment process, everything that we do has been placed under a microscope. This has resulted in finding more efficiencies and encouraging the school district to not only think about doing things differently, but also to better meet the needs of our students, families and schools. With this in mind several changes are now in the works for the next school year. Many positions are being changed and eliminated over the next two years. Many of these are at the district level including the assistant superintendents, other assistant-type jobs and administrative support positions. These changes will dramatically change the make-up of the central services building with over half of the district services structures and …

Stillwater Area School District Superintendent Corey Lunn encourages district residents to join him this week in reaching out to to show appreciation for their dedication to our students.
With the launch of our new website, I have had an opportunity to view the online biographies of many of our staff members. Our district has teachers who have traveled, worked and lived across the world. We have teachers who are published authors, inventors and accomplished speakers. We have teachers who have helped develop our students into state champions, and many have been inducted into halls of fame for their work with students in extra-curricular activities. We have teachers with master’s and even doctoral degrees. We have teachers who began their careers in other professions and decided later in their lives to apply and share what they learned with our students. Because of this collective knowledge and experience, we have successful …

Students will use fruit and vegetable trackers to record their consumption each day for four weeks. “Kids consume about half of their daily calories during the school day, so school nutrition is a critical component in addressing the obesity epidemic,” Mary Brainerd, …

The Stillwater Area School District's website recently went through a redesign. Do you think the new sites? Are they cleaner? Easier to use? Tell us what you think in the comment section below.
Earlier this month, the Stillwater Area School District launched their new website. The decision to give the district’s websites a facelift was made about a year ago after getting feedback that the existing websites were "out-of-date, difficult to navigate and visually unattractive." Work on the school district’s website began last spring. The site had not been upgraded since 2007. The new site design is clean, easier to navigate and features more photos, videos and social media feeds. The homepage also hosts a calendar and four news sections. Unlike the previous websites, which were owned, managed and hosted by a private vendor, the district will hold exclusive rights to the new site. “This means the website project will be cost-neutral …

It seems these changes will be very easy . Over the past forty years, public school employment has risen 10 times faster than enrollment. There are only 9 percent more students today, but nearly twice as many public school employees. With public schools complaining about student teacher ratiaos, its a given that the bloated numbers come from those employees not in front of students.   more ›
