Watch Video of the Vikings Stadium Senate Committee Hearing

The Vikings Stadium bill continues its trip through the Minnesota Senate this morning. A floor vote could happen as early as Friday.

Legislators are keeping a Vikings stadium proposal rolling despite setbacks just a week ago. The stadium proposal cleared two House committees this month but stumbled last week when the House Government Operations and Elections Committee rejected it, 9-6. Supporters, led by Shakopee's Cory Merrifield at SaveTheVikes.org, and backed by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, rallied to keep the bill moving forward—which the the Senate Jobs and Economic Growth Committee did on Tuesday. Today, the Senate Finance Committee will take up the measure. The hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. You can watch live here, thanks to The UpTake.

A “Hail Mary” pass may be about the only chance the Minnesota Vikings have left to get a stadium bill passed this session. The House Government Operations and Elections Committee failed to approve a bill that calls for funding a new stadium that would house the NFL team. The vote was 9-6 with five DFLers and four Republicans voting against the plan. Five Republicans and one DFLer voted for the bill. Sponsored by Rep. Morrie Lanning (R-Moorhead), HF2810 calls a for a $975 million fixed-roof stadium to be built on the Metrodome site. An Early Fishing Opener?

The House passed a bill Tuesday that would move the 2012 Minnesota Fishing Opener up a week. If Gov. Mark Dayton signs the bill, fishing opener scheduled on Minnesota waters on May 12 would move up a week.

Mother’s Day and the Minnesota state fishing opener may not conflict this year, even though they are scheduled the same weekend. If signed by Gov. Mark Dayton, the omnibus game and fish bill would set fishing opener for May 5. Minnesota’s 2012 fishing season is officially scheduled to start May 12. “The fish have done most of the work that they must do to make other fish,” Rep. David Dill (D-Crane Lake) said. “The fish already are moving out (into deeper water). This is a bonus week. We have a constitutional amendment that says we have the right to hunt and fish.” The omnibus game and fish bill, HF2171, passed by the House Tuesday, and also includes a Minnesota wolf-hunting season coinciding with the start of the deer-hunting season. The …

Mega Millions Jackpot Grows to Record $500 Million

Taking the "lump sum" might make you as wealthy as Minnesota-born Prince, and pay you more than that famous Kevin Garnett contract with the Timberwolves.

You didn't win Tuesday night's Mega Millions jackpot? No worries. Neither did anyone else. Now, the prize amount has grown to the highest-ever in the game's 15-year history. Friday night's estimated jackpot sits at $500 million, already up from Wednesday morning's initial estimate of $476 million. The drawing occurs at 11 p.m., with a 10:45 p.m. cutoff for buying tickets. To put it in comparison with some Minnesota figures: Remember that gigantic contract the Minnesota Timberwolves signed with Kevin Garnett during the 1998 season? Garnett was given $126 million over six years. And he had to work 82 games (plus some playoff games) for that one. Joe Mauer? Sure, the kid's been scrutinized, but he still signed his "huge" contract a couple of …
