A 34-year-old Stillwater man this week was accused of burglarizing Bronze Boutique in downtown Stillwater. Samuel Wolfgang Hernandez was charged by the Washington County Attorney’s Office with third-degree burglary. At the time of the alleged crime, he was on probation for a burglary conviction in Dakota County. According to the complaint: Stillwater police were called at about 11:11 p.m. on Dec. 21 to a report of a burglary in progress at Bronze Boutique. Two Stillwater men face felony burglary charges as a result of an investigation into the recent rash of burglaries in Stillwater. Washington County Attorney Pete Orput announced today that Nicholas John DeRosier and James Jonathan Cody Hanson, both 18 of Stillwater, face felony burglary charges. DeRosier is facing 4 counts of burglary and Hanson was charged with one count of burglary. Hanson had his initial appearance in Washington County District Court today where bail was set at $5,000. His next court appearance is set for Aug. 2 at 1 p.m. A warrant has been issued for DeRosier's arrest, but he is currently not in custody. The suspects are entering through open doors and windows and taking purses, wallets, and in some cases, small electronics. Along with the burglaries, police have also been called to several instances of theft from unlocked motor vehicles, Stender said. The 42-year-old St. Paul man who allegedly pulled a stolen gun on an Xcel meter reader in Baytown Township last month now faces federal charges of being a felon in possession of a handgun. Michael Scott Canfield—described by the U.S. Attorney’s Office as a “career criminal”—pointed a .45-caliber, semi-automatic pistol at an Xcel employee who foiled a burglary at a home in the 13700 block of 47th Street Court, according to a federal indictment. Canfield then fled the scene. Detectives later found a .45 caliber handgun on the ground next to a tree in the woods adjacent to where Canfield’s vehicle was parked in Stillwater. Because he is a felon, Canfield is prohibited under federal law from possessing a firearm at any time. His prior felony …

Stillwater police are investigating a rash of brazen burglaries that happened on the Fourth of July. In five separate incidents, a burglar reportedly entered a home—and in one case, a vehicle—through an unlocked door and made off with purses, wallets, cash and electronics. In each case, residents were home at the time of the entry. Police believe the incidents are related due to the mode of operation, proximity and time of the incidents. As the Xcel employee approached a meter in Baytown Township, Michael Canfield allegedly walked directly toward him with a semi-automatic handgun, pointed it at his midsection and said, “I’ve just been robbed.”
The Xcel employee who foiled a burglary in Baytown Township while reading a meter at a home on 47th Street Court on Monday told detectives he thought he was going to be shot. When the meter reader arrived at a home in the 13700 block of 47th Street Court just after 11 a.m., he told Washington County deputies that he saw a blue Ford Explorer in the driveway.
