The Stillwater City Council on Tuesday approved the first reading of an amendment that would allow the brewery to build a 30-seat outdoor patio along the southeast corner of the building.

The ordinance needs to be amended to allow a permit to be issued for outside sales in a business park zoning district. The proposal passed 4-0, with Stillwater Mayor Ken Harycki absent. A second reading of the ordinance amendment will come back to council next month. The proposal calls for the 1,000 square-foot patio to be fenced in, and include additional off-street parking spaces. Minnesota's Fourth District Congresswoman Betty McCollum (DFL) was in Stillwater Thursday, making stops at Valley Outreach, Lift Bridge Brewery and Stillwater Junior High. Stillwater became part of the Fourth Congressional District of Minnesota as the result of redistricting following the 2010 Census. Beginning Feb. 12, constituent services representatives from McCollum's office will be available the second Tuesday of every month from 9-11 a.m., at Stillwater City Hall to assist residents with federal agency casework. Residents of the Stillwater area can make an appointment in advance by contacting Congresswoman McCollum’s Minnesota office (651) 224-9191.

Lift Bridge Brewing Co. is celebrating the release of their latest barrel of aged beer, Silhouette, with an outdoor “ice taproom,” music, food, bonfires, and of course, Lift Bridge brews.
Lift Bridge Brewing Co. is celebrating the release of their latest barrel of aged beer, Silhouette, with an outdoor “ice taproom,” music, food, bonfires, and of course, Lift Bridge brews. The Silhouette release party is from 6-9 p.m. Feb. 9 at the brewery. The event is free, but reservations are encouraged. Here’s how the Lift Bridge guys describe the beer: Silhouette is as dark as a moonless night. Brewed in the style of a Russian Imperial Stout, aromas of coffee, molasses, chocolate, and prune meld with an intense dark roasted character. This complex beer is rich, full bodied and will warm the senses. Lift Bridge is releasing two versions of the brew—barreled and un-barreled.
