Zach’s perspective on life is inspiring.

Zach, 17, a senior at Stillwater Area High School, has been battling a rare bone cancer since he was diagnosed at age 14. As the disease spreads, doctors have no more effective treatment options to offer him a cure.

He embraces every day with hope and joy, and surrounds himself with family and friends, a profile on childrencancer.org reads. Zach still goes to his senior year classes, although he told his teachers that he will skip the homework—and he writes and performs songs for the ones he loves.

A concert to benefit the Zach Sobiech Osteosarcoma Fund will go down Feb. 16 at the Varsity Theater in Minneapolis. Zach's band A Firm Handshake will perform alongside musicians Vicci Martinez, Kevin Bowe with Alison Scott, Gabriel Douglas, (The 4onthefloor) and many others.

The show is already more than 50 percent sold, according to Rock the Cause. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.

Zach recently signed with BMI—a music rights management group—that will negotiate his music license agreements and distributes the fees it generates as royalties to the Zach Sobiech Osteosarcoma Fund when his songs are performed in public.

"It was an honor for us to sign Zach as an official BMI songwriter on January 25,” Silvia Davi, BMI's VP, Head of Strategic Communications and Marketing said this week. “We were touched by his moving story, courage, and most of all his music. His "Clouds" song showcases the healing power of music, which in Zach's case will benefit many supporting his cause.

“Zach is truly an inspiration and we were delighted to host him and his family at BMI's New York headquarters where he performed for us shortly after being recognized by our Chairman and executives as a BMI member."

Zach’s story will air on SoulPancake in the coming months, KARE 11 reports.
