Documentary and Dialog: Girl From Birch Creek

The Marine Community Library presents the first event in our Documentary and Dialog series. "Girl From Birch Creek: The Life and Legacy of Justice Rosalie Wahl" is a 57 minute historical documentary film. Following the film there will be a discussion led by Emily Haddad.

The film is narrated by Nina Totenberg, written and directed by Emily Haddad and produced by John Kaul and Emily Haddad.

"Girl from Birch Creek" tells the story of one woman's courage and vision to fight for those who had no voice.  It is the story of a young girl who faces tragedy and hardship during the Depression and World War II, and dedicates her life to helping others. Justice Rosalie Wahl becomes the first woman appointed to the Minnesota Supreme Court. From her position she fights for equal justice regardless of race, gender or economic status. The documentary also tells the story of the women's movement that helped to make Rosalie's appointment to the Minnesota Supreme Court possible.

"Girl from Birch Creek" has been an official selection in the American Documentary Film Festival in Palm Springs, California, the Female Eye Film Festival in Toronto, Canada, the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Film Festival, and others.

In the Marine Village Hall, 121 Judd Street, Marine on Saint Croix.  Light refreshments will be served.
