The Washington County crash happened Friday morning in Scandia, about 16 miles north of Stillwater.

Updated and Corrected (6 p.m. Friday): An 80-year-old Marine-on-St. Croix man died after a crash on Hwy. 95 in Scandia at about 11:30 a.m. Friday that sent his minivan into a ditch where it caught fire.

Those at the scene were unable to extricate Kenneth R. Ostlund, according to the Minnesota State Patrol

Another vehicle, a 2001 Ford Super Duty pickup with a 72-year-old Chisago City man at the wheel, also ended up in the ditch but the driver was not injured.*

According to the State Patrol report, the pickup was northbound on Hwy 95 when it T-boned Ostlund's 2003 Chevrolet Venture after the minivan pulled out from 240th in front of the truck.

The truck suffered moderate damage. The Chevy was totaled.

The blacktop roadway was wet at the time of the crash, the State Patrol's online report indicates. The site of the incident was 22000 St. Croix Trail N. in Scandia, about 16 miles north of Stillwater.

The State Patrol did not report any other people or vehicles involved in the crash.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office assisted the State Patrol.

*Correction: This post originally stated inaccurately that the victim was a 72-year-old resident of Chisago City, as reported by the St. Paul Pioneer Press, citing the State Patrol.
