Washington County Sheriff’s Office Seeks Reserves

Applications will be accepted through Oct. 31. Applicants will undergo an oral interview process in November.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is seeking applications for its Reserves program.

Then Reserves patrol the streets and parks and waterways with licensed deputies and help out with public events, civic emergencies and crime scenes, said Laura Ochs, a member of the Reserves.

“We’re available for whatever the county needs,” she said.

Applicants must:

  • be at least 18 years old;
  • have a high school diploma or equivalent;
  • have a valid drivers license;
  • pass a criminal history and background check; and
  • not have any physical or medical conditions that would limit their abilities to perform assigned duties.

Applicants will undergo an oral interview process in November.

“The Sheriff’s Reserve is comprised of highly motivated individuals from varying backgrounds who know the joy, pride, and rewards of giving their time and talents to those in need,” reads a release. “We are looking for concerned citizens who want to renew their commitment to social responsibility and give something back to their communities and enthusiastic retired people who want to remain active in their community while gaining experience in law enforcement.”

Applications will be accepted through Oct. 31.

Those chosen must also complete the Reserve Deputy Sheriff’s Academy at the Washington County Law Enforcement Center in Stillwater. It’s set to begin in January 2014, and run for one evening each week from January through April.
