Sen. Al Franken visited Valley Outreach Saturday afternoon in the midst of Minnesota FoodShare month.

The Senator spoke with Valley Outreach volunteers, staff and board members about the prevalence of hunger even in affluent Washington County; and the challenges of serving a growing customer base as government aid and grant monies are shrinking.

His visit came in the midst of Minnesota  , an annual statewide campaign to raise hunger awareness and build support for local community food shelves.

The “Yes We Can” campaign urges every citizen in the community to donate 3 cans in an effort to collect over 86,000 pounds of non-perishable food.

Public collection sites include , ,  and .

 are also taking place in the community.  has offered to be another pet food collection site on March 31 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Financial contributions are also being directed toward the March campaign for Valley Outreach.
