Stillwater Schools Closed Monday

District 834 says with 'similar conditions on Tuesday, we encourage parents/guardians to consider alternate plans.'

Classes are cancelled at Stillwater Area Public Schools on Monday, Jan. 27. Again, you can blame wicked winter wind chills.

Here is the full announcement from District 834

Due to the extremely cold temperatures and dangerous wind chills, all Stillwater Area Public Schools will be closed on Monday, Jan. 27. All of our schools will be closed and activities canceled including Adventure Club, early childhood programs and Community Education classes.

These are very difficult decisions to make, as our desire is to keep students in school and learning. We’ve been closely monitoring the forecast for Monday, and have waited as long as possible to make a decision to ensure we have the most accurate information. Ultimately, the decision has been made for the safety of our students, many of whom must wait for buses in unprotected and isolated areas while others walk to school.

The events of this winter are unprecedented, as we now face the very real possibility of having to add days to the school calendar to make up for the cancellations of school. The school board will be discussing this in the coming days, and more information will be shared with you as these decisions are made.

As forecasters are predicting similar conditions on Tuesday, we encourage parents/guardians to consider alternate plans for their children’s care in the event our school day is once again impacted.
