Update: Gateway Trail Tunnel Closure Delayed by Rain

The trail is scheduled to re-open by 7 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

MnDOT says rain has delayed the work by a week.

Starting at 7 a.m. Monday, June 24, both directions of the Gateway State Trail tunnel beneath Highway 36 in Pine Springs will close for nine days as crews do utility work under the trail.

The trail is scheduled to re-open by 7 a.m. Tuesday, July 2.

The Highway 36/Hilton Trail project is underway, and starting at 7 a.m. Monday, June 17, both directions of the Gateway Trail tunnel beneath Highway 36 in Pine Springs will close for nine days as crews do utility work under the trail.

The trail is scheduled to re-open by 7 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

There's no detour or alternate route MnDOT can recommend.

The $13.8 million reconstruction project, expected to be completed in fall of 2013, will “improve safety and traffic flow on Highway 36, Hilton Trail, Highlands Trail and Demontreville Trail while reducing the amount of through traffic cutting through residential areas,” according to the release.
