Warden's House Holiday Event - December 14th

The Washington County Historical Society invites you to join our holiday celebrations on Saturday, December 14th from 1 - 5 PM.

Not only is the event an open house for the Warden's House Museum, we also have a number of featured authors attending to sign and sell copies of their books on local history.  Live music and refreshments will also be on hand. Some of our normal gift shop items will be up to 50% off!

The event will be held at the Warden's House Museum, 602 Main Street N., Stillwater, MN.

Allow me to take a moment to let you know about the authors we have lined up:

First off, we'll have WCHS favorites Robert and Nancy Goodman joining us. The duo have penned a plethora of books on early Minnesota history including a biography on the 'Father of Minnesota' Joseph R. Brown and an "on the ground" look at a few Minnesota soldiers during the Civil War.

For the first time this year, Bruce A. Kohn will also be part of this year's festivities. Mr. Kohn has recently published a biography exploring the early connections between Native Americans in Minnesota and the first European settlers of the territory. His book, Dakota Child, Governor's Daughter follows the challenging life of Helen Hastings Sibley, daughter of Henry Hasting Sibley (first territorial congressman and Minnesota state governor) and a Dakota woman known as Red Blanket Woman.

Naturally we won't leave out author and WCHS Executive Director Brent Peterson. If you live in Stillwater and there isn't a book with "Brent Peterson" on the spine somewhere in your house - this is your chance to fix that long overdue oversight. (We promise we won't tell your neighbors!) All of his works, from Stillwater: The Next Generation to his newest publication Images of America: Stillwater will be available on the 14th.

Another Warden's House newcomer, Bill Schrankler, will be attending with his brand new book, Shadows of Time: Minnesota's Surviving Railroad Depots. Featuring 256 pages of full-color photographs, maps, and other images this has a place in any railroad lover's library. The images are coupled with interesting historical information on each featured depot.

And last, but certainly not least, Gloria VanDemmeltraadt will be returning to the Warden's House with her extremely popular Memories of Lake Elmo. By utilizing library and historical society research in addition to one-on-one interviews, her publication has a personal touch many history books lack.

I am also very excited to announce that this year's Holiday Event will also featured the release of the WCHS produced documentary, Girl From Birch Creek. The documentary documents the life of the first female Minnesota Supreme Court Justice, Rosalie Wahl. This will be the first opportunity for the public to purchase this fantastic film!
