Deep Freeze Gives Old Stillwater Post Office a One-Week Lease on Life

Demolition to make way for Trinity Lutheran Church project was set to start Monday, but is now delayed until Monday, Jan. 13.

Extreme cold has delayed the start of demolition of Stillwater's old post office by one week, according to Pastor Dan Poffenberger at Trinity Lutheran Church

The church plans to build an addition on the site of the former post office, a building it has owned for 23 years.

The project, for which Trinity has been fundraising under the name Opening Doors, will provide the church with 14,000 additional feet for programming.

Once it's underway, demolition is expected to take about a week and construction of the addition another nine months.

The United States Post Office in 2012 moved to the Croix Center on Fourth Street—a property also owned by Trinity.
